Luis Suarez has endured a torrid season by his own impeccably high standards.

Ahead of Barcelona’s La Liga clash against Leganes on Saturday afternoon, the Uruguayan forward had gone five matches without scoring for the Catalan giants.

However, after a 479-minute wait, Suarez finally ended his goal drought with a close-range finish past Leganes goalkeeper Pichu Cuellar midway through the first half.

The 30-year-old then netted his fifth goal of the campaign with a terrific acrobatic finish after the break.

What a difference a goal can make to a striker’s confidence.

SUAREZ CRITICISED FOR HOW HE CELEBRATED HIS SECOND GOAL

However, Suarez was criticised by some viewers for the unsavoury manner in which he celebrated his second goal.

The South American deliberately ran past Cuellar while shouting and pumping his fist.

He was clearly rubbing it in the Leganes keeper’s face.

FOOTAGE SHOWS WHY SUAREZ WAS SO ANGRY WITH CUELLAR

This wouldn’t be the first time in his career that Suarez has done something controversial on a football pitch; however, footage from the 52nd minute of the match shows exactly why he was so keen to antagonise Cuellar.

The goalkeeper had gathered the ball after an Andres Iniesta pass to Lionel Messi had rolled to him and then attempted to distribute the ball to a teammate as quickly as possible.

Suarez ran alongside Cuellar and was pushed by the former Spain Under-23 international, who then went to ground holding his face when Barça’s number nine pushed his arm away.

This was a cynical attempt by Cuellar to get Suarez sent off and referee Alberto Undiano punished the forward with a yellow card.

If anything, Cuellar should have been booked for simulation.

With the incident still fresh in the memory, Suarez exacted his revenge by celebrating his second goal in front of the 33-year-old shot-stopper.

And when you watch the footage back, who can really blame him?
